Memorex Telex International NV has ventured into the software arena with an addition to the 3270 products it announced earlier this month (CI No 1,422). The Advanced Productivity Terminal, known as the 1425-APT, comprises an 80286-based intelligent system based on the Memorex Telex 7025, a Coaxxsys emulation package, and the new Comms Worker software. The terminal and software costs UKP1,975 and will be available from June. The company has also added to its 1174 family of network controllers with the model 90R. It supports up to 16 co-ax devices, costs UKP2,500, and will be available in August. Comms Worker is a personal computer-based package to facilitate interaction between the micro and host. Memorex Telex says that it enables users to customise mainframe applications at the personal computer level without mainframe reprogramming. Coaxxsys is an emulation product for attaching personal computers on a co-ax network, and it is available in AT and Micro Channel Architecture designs, and Memorex is now sourcing its 7270 Micro Channel machines from the Taiwanese company, Mitac International Inc rather than its original Micro Channel supplier, Normerel SA of France. In addition to Coaxxsys, Memorex has announced a new product for adding Token Ring-attached personal computers to a 3270 network. It combines the software in the 1174 network controller with that located in the personal computer, which enables the personal computers to be integrated into the network without the need to use local area network server or gateway personal computer. Lansys also enables each personal computer to retain full NetView support.
