Matra Marconi Space SA won a contract worth more than $10m to provide a network of satellite communications terminals for Brazil’s armed forces, known as Siscomis. Matra said it would supply shipborne communications for the Brazilian Navy along with some land-based tactical mobile terminals for use by the navy, army and air force. It will also provide a central hub station and network management facilities. It will be prime contractor and will work closely with Brazil’s Promon Eletronica Ltda. Matra said the network will use X-band transponders on the latest generation Brasilsat satellites currently in orbit. Matra is a joint venture between Lagardere SA of France and General Electric Co Plc of the UK.
