Madge Networks Ltd, Chalfont St Giles, Buckinghamshire has released version 4.0 of its Smart LAN Support network adaptor board software for use with its Smart 16/4 Ringnode adaptors. Smart LAN Support Software Release 4.0 provides enhanced support for on-board multiple protocol processing, and improved fault tolerance. A new Smart protocol module providing the Novell Inc ODI Open Data Link Interface has been developed to complement the existing IPX Internetwork Packet Exchange, LLC Logical Link Control and NetBIOS modules. The new Smart Open Data Link Interface module enables workstation users to run Novell’s IPX protocol over the Open Data Link Interface, with simultaneous support for Logical Link Control and NetBIOS protocols. Release 4.0 also includes enhanced server support, with new features and new server driver modules. For the latest version of its server driver for Novell NetWare 3.X, Madge has developed a fault tolerance feature called server card mirroring. This enablestwo Smart 16/4 Ringnodes in a server to be connected to the same ring, with one designated as the primary connection, and the other one as the back-up.
