According to the company, the new ActiveReach Game Value Management Solution will provide better control of the distribution, protection, updates and promotion of games, whether online or in physical form.
Macrovision said it also provides the technology to support the delivery of games both in physical format and online, enabling game publishers to enhance new business models.
The new platform comes in response to a recent survey carried out by the company which found that 40% of PC gamers and 21% of console gamers play pirated games, while 43% of these pirated game players each download over 15 pirated titles a year. Macrovision claims this could represent over $1bn of unrealized potential revenue to the games industry.
Major game developers and publishers invest millions of dollars on the development and promotion of games, yet they lose significant revenue to piracy, said Steve Weinstein, executive vice president of Macrovision’s Entertainment Technologies Group. Macrovision’s ActiveReach Game Solution is designed to ensure that game developers and publishers maximize a game’s value by extending the life of its revenue earning potential, while enabling direct communication with customers to enhance existing games and promote new games.
