Macromedia Inc, San Francisco Web publishing tools king, has bought FutureWave Software Inc of San Diego to add the Flash tool for creating small, fast multimedia animations for Macromedia’s Shockwave multimedia player. FutureWave developed the product as FutureSplash Animator; now renamed Macromedia Flash, it is integrated with the Shockwave family of multimedia players. Flash is intended to make it easy to create and animate high-resolution vector-based graphics or to import them from graphic design tools such as Macromedia FreeHand. Macromedia Flash supports Windows95, NT and Mac OS and costs $250. Terms of the share exchange acquisition were not disclosed.
