LSI Logic Corp, Milpitas, California warns that second quarter net profits will be down on first quarter levels and fall short of recent expectations, being between 11 and 13 cents a share against 19 cents in the first quarter: the company blames a shortfall in total revenues – it expects to do $140m – and lower than-expected levels of design services and factory loading; several customers have pushed out their requirements at a time when we had already increased our cost structure to accommodate them, the maker of applications specific integrated circuits reports, adding that it has implemented a selective hiring freeze and will control costs closely for the rest of 1989.
