The world is apparently ready for another financials and distribution system, so Logicline Group Ltd, Guildford, Surrey has launched Synergy Financials and Distribution. The group was formed in June 1994 from a merger of software company Logicline Ltd and L3 Systems Ltd, which had a unix-based financial package called Unity. Logicline Group was formed with the goal of writing a fully integrated operating system- and database-independent client-server financial and distribution package. The result is Synergy, which it says is a true 32-bit Windows client-server system that will run with any modern operating system including Windows NT, Unix and VMS. It runs on all the better known databases including Sybase, SQL Server, Oracle and Informix. It is written using JYACC Inc’s JAM 7 client-server development tool (CI No 2,684). The company claims its product is more scalable than that of SAP AG, from large multinational systems down to two or three user systems. However, it does not advocate integration with existing systems, rather offers a data transfer service from legacy systems on to Synergy. It currently has 20 installed customers using Synergy, but says this is the start of its marketing push and it hopes to grow its turnover to ú6m by the end of next year, from ú2.5m this year. The company says it is targetting major corporate customers on a worldwide basis, and it is also establishing a global value-added reseller network. It has recently won a global contract from an oil company, which it cannot yet name, with 80 users in London, and offices in Aberdeen, Syria, and the US. Logicline says it will sell the basic system and then customise to the user’s needs. It is looking at a customised version of the software for the oil and gas industries. The company currently has 43 staff and says it has ú1m in the bank – and may be looking for a suitable acquisition.
