As part of a co-operative marketing agreement signed with Intec, Logica recommends, delivers and installs InterconnecT, the market leader in inter-carrier billing and settlements, to its telecommunications customers around the world.

Deregulation has lead to explosive growth in Hungary’s mobile communications market, with the number of active mobile phone service subscribers expected to reach five million – half of Hungary’s population – by the end of 2001. Westel is the biggest mobile operator in the country, already providing services to over two million mobile users. InterconnecT will enable Westel to maintain its market lead by providing a fast and flexible system that can accurately charge other carriers for using its GSM network. Its scalability will also easily manage rapidly increasing traffic volumes and the growing complexity of Westel’s customer services.

Westel’s cooperation with Intec and Logica will play an important role in assuring maximum revenue from our GSM network investment, says Mr József Szucs, CIO of Westel. InterconnecT’s reputation for quick implementation and accurate billing drove our choice of the Intec/Logica solution as the most effective option for our requirements.

Westel is the leading GSM operator in Hungary, jointly owned by Matav, Hungary’s major provider of fixed line and mobile telecommunications, and Deutsche Telekom, Europe’s largest telecommunications company.

Logica and Intec have successfully worked together on delivering customised billing solutions to telecoms operators around the world, said Kevin Adams, Intec’s CEO. This existing experience will provide Westel with a highly integrated system that can be configured to support any existing network.

This contract confirms Logica’s position as the leading systems integrator in Central Europe. Logica is already very strong in the Czech Republic, fast growing in Slovakia and expansion in the Hungarian market, including founding a local office, is among our key objectives for this fiscal year. We are delighted that we can co-operate with the largest mobile operator in Hungary and build on our experience from working for telecoms in other countries in this region, says Mr Róbert Sándor, Country Manager for Slovak Republic and Hungary at Logica.

Hungary will be one of the first Eastern European countries to introduce UMTS and 3G network services in the region. This emerging technology provides Intec with strong future business potential in Central and Eastern Europe for its IntermediatE billing product, a convergent collection and mediation platform capable of dealing with the volume and complexity of IP-based services.
