Lightning Computers Inc of San Francisco, which is dedicated to making high-end computers at low, low prices, has announced that it is shipping a complete 80486-based Multimedia system with a Cyrix Corp Cx486-40MHz central processing unit, with 128K cache and maths co-processor, 170Mb Quantum Corp drive, Local Bus graphics, a CD-ROM, sound board, speakers and three CD-ROM titles for $1,800. The Omniflex 486/40M includes five AT slots and three VESA Local Bus slots; 4Mb RAM, expandable to 32Mb; 101-key enhanced AT keyboard, Mitsumi CD-ROM (175K-bytes per second, 375mS average access), desktop chassis in 250W UL/CAS power supply, 1.44Mb 3.5 Teac Corp floppy disk drives, Local Bus graphics board with 1Mb RAM, 24-bit colour, one parallel, one game and two serial ports and Soundblaster-compatible sound board and the speakers. Lightning says it also offers hundreds of options which users can select among to create their own custom-built personal computer.
