The addition of anti-virus scan capabilities to version 8.7 of the systems management system means an administrator will be able to run scans for vulnerabilities, trigger patches or remotely update desktops, servers and mobile devices all from the same, single console.

Existing versions of the security suite manage a number of other leading anti-virus products, and the company said it would continue to support them.

LANDesk product manager Jon Giffard said the intelligence of the LANdesk agent technology had also been enhanced, so that say requests for patches coming from remote or mobile devices are routed to the nearest servers for updates. It will speed the process and ensure it is making best use of available network bandwidth he said.

The 7.8 upgrade is said also to take in new operating system deployment capabilities to address the needs of organizations planning eventually to tackle Windows Vista migration projects. It will support new Microsoft WIM Ximage technology to enable offline servicing of images, and also includes support for 32 bit pre-boot environments for Windows PE and LDLinux.
