Yet another steel company has identified computers and microelectronics as a better bet for the future, and Kawasaki Steel Corp, Tokyo is joining forces with the Harris Semiconductor arm of Harris Corp to develop VLSI CMOS integrated circuits: Harris will provide design, marketing and production support and facilities to Kawasaki and Kawasaki will provide financial and marketing support to Harris during the first three years of the pact; the initial products, to be marketed by Kawasaki in the Pacific Rim and Harris in the US and Europe, will be application specific standard products for digital signal processing, telecommunications and industrial control, and they will be fabricated by Harris in Melbourne, Florida, but Kawasaki plans to manufacture in Japan as well in due course.
