Santa Clara based 3D graphics accelerator specialist, Jazz Multimedia Inc, has announced that Renegade 3D will be available at the end of March, in 8Mb and 12Mb configurations. Based on the 3Dfx Interactive Inc Voodoo2 chipset, the Renegade 3D accelerates games at over three times the performance of first generation Voodoo Graphics cards, Jazz claimed. It is available in a PCI version with an AGP version to follow. The 12Mb PCI version with 4Mb frame buffer and two 4Mb texture engines is $299 and the 8Mb PCI version with 4Mb frame buffer and two 2Mb texture engines is $229. This second Renegade 3D card connects internally for scan line interleaving, a technique that doubles the fill rate and enables resolutions up to 1024×768. Renegade 3D works alongside current 2D graphics cards, in a separate PCI or AGP slot, via a pass-through connector.
