The San Francisco-based company launched its Jasperforge.org site nine months ago to provide developers with access to JasperSoft-stewarded software code and tools for building open source applications.
The site’s development community has already resulted in 130-plus open source business intelligence projects. These include JasperBabylon, an online translation tool, reporting and analysis tools for Bugzilla and Jasper4Ecplise, a reporting plug-in for Eclipse development environments.
Developers from software services firms like Cincom and Works (part of Bank of America) are actively developing extensions to JasperSoft products.
JasperSofts open source software has been downloaded 2 million times and is now used by over 5,000 companies worldwide. The JasperSoft BI Suite includes a reporting server, ad hoc report design interfaces, OLAP analysis, and a Java reporting library.
Earlier this year the company added an extract, transform, and load (ETL) tool to the suite through a license agreement with French open source firm Talend.
Jasperforge.org, which was formally launched in July 2006, is competing with other open source comminities including the Eclipse-based BIRT (Business Intelligence Reporting Tools) which is heavily sponsored by Actuate.
