Apple could be hit by a severe shortage of the iPad Mini 2, leading to major supply issues, a new report claims.
The latest tablet was due to launch at the end of the month, but a Nikkei report says it might not be widely available until spring 2014.
In addition, the report claims that production at LGD is the most successful of the suppliers of the device, which include Sharp, but that even LGD is "not close to full production".
IHS tablet research director Rhoda Alexander was quoted by the Telegraph as saying that the supply of the Retina Mini is going to be tight in the fourth quarter.
"Apple’s 2013 iPad shipment growth is shaping up to be comparatively modest and the shift in launch cycles has played a major role in the slowdown," Alexander said.
She believes the tech giant may delay launching the device until February or March next year when the supply recovers, which coincides with the conclusions of the Nikkei report.
The new iPad Mini will boast a high resolution 7.9in Retina display as well as a new A7 chip. It will cost £319 upon release in the UK.
