Rockville, Maryland-based software tools developer Intersolv Inc has revamped its recently acquired set of database tools and has launched new versions under the Intersolv banner. Intersolv Q+E 6.0 is a query and reporting product and comes with Open Database Connectivity drivers that can access 30 databases. It is competing in a very crowded field but Intersolv believes that by making it easy enough for a total novice to use but powerful enough for more experienced users, it will be popular in the corporate market, especially with customers operating more than one database management system. It is a Windows products and, says the company, extends the product’s previous capacity for extensive analysis and report generation. One of the new features is Query Builder, an intuitive tool enabling users to point and click to generate database queries quickly without any need for knowledge of SQL commands, says Intersolv. Administration features have been added that allow the partitioning off of sensitive sections of the database. Other additions are drill down, reporting and job scheduling, which enables searches to be started at predetermined times. It has Object Linking & Embedding v2 support and is available now at $550. Intersolv bought Q+E Software Inc, Raleigh, North Carolina in April for $5.3m cash and 2.37m new shares for an indicated total of $36m (CI No 2,400). At the time Intersolv said it was looking for 50% annual growth in Q+E turnover, against 20% for Intersolv, albeit off a smaller base.
