The Dedham, Massachusetts-based company said that using Linux within the MessageScreen LX Series of appliances will bring about performance increases and lower the cost of ownership.
The new LX Series has been introduced with version 4.3 of MessageScreen, which implements multi-layer filtering to guard against spam using real-time block lists, sender server verification, lexical scanning, predictive analysis, and heuristic scoring.
The MessageScreen LX Series is based on Novell Inc’s SuSE Linux operating system. Two 1U appliance models are available: the 1GB LX100 based on a single 2.4GHz Intel Corp Xeon processor with throughput of up to 30,000 messages per hour, and the 2GB LX300 based on dual 2.8GHz Intel Xeon processors with throughput of up to 58,000 messages per hour.
The Sun Microsystems Inc Solaris-based SN Series is also available with the 1GB SN100 based on a single 1.0GHz UltraSPARC processor offering throughput of up 13,000 messages per hour, and the 2GB SN300 based on dual 1.0GHz UltraSPARC processors offering throughput of up to 20,000 messages per hour.
All MessageScreen appliances offer integration with Microsoft Corp’s Outlook and Novell’s GroupWise, integrated virus protection by way of Sophos Plc’s anti-virus engine, image scanning and scoring, a web management interface, and selective end-user control.
