Intel Corp has confirmed that it has discontinued the packaged tools it acquired with e-commerce startup iCat Corp in December 1998. There are two pieces of iCat, explains Intel spokesperson Adam Grossberg, one is iCat Commerce Online, a web site targeted towards small and medium sized businesses. The other is iCat’s shrink-wrapped tools, Publisher and Suite. That’s a business that we have decided, along with iCat, to get rid of.

Small and medium-sized business will still be able to obtain online e-commerce services via the site, but the software products will no longer be available. Grossberg assures us that the 30 or so people employed to work on Publisher and Suite will all have jobs within Intel’s new business group, Internet Data Services. Basically, after doing an analysis of the marketplace, we figured that the Suite and Publisher efforts were redundant, he says.
