The Michaelangelo virus (see page three) has hit Intel Corp, which warns that it has stopped shipping the LANSpool 3.01 print server utility because some copies were found to be infected with the virus: users that bought LANSpool 3.01 software since it began shipping in January are advised to take precautionary measures against the virus, which is due to activate on Friday; the only versions found to be affected were the version for Novell NetWare 2.1x and 2.2x networks and the one for NetWare 3.1x networks – and only on 5.25 floppy disks; Intel has released the LANSpool 3.02 utility, a new version fully tested and verified virus-free; some copies were shipped in Europe as well as the US and Canada, and a contrite Intel says that customers with infected units of LANSpool 3.01 can have a free copy of Intel’s $1,000 LANProtect software.
