Intel Corp and Fluent Machines Inc have put their heads together to develop and market software for Intel’s DVI multimedia products. Under a planned licensing agreement, Fluent is converting its recently-released FluentStreams digital video system software for Windows 3.0 to Intel’s new Audio Video Kernel software and ActionMedia II add-in boards. FluentStreams will incorporate the digital video application programming interface that Intel is currently developing in conjunction with IBM Corp and Microsoft Corp. Fluent will also develop networking software and a software-only video player for DVI systems. This is another step in the attempt to bring multimedia to the desktop. FluentStreams integrates scalable digital video and audio into Windows 3.0 multimedia applications, offering developers flexibility in adapting video information to specific application requirements and network resources. In networked applications, scalable video provides the capability to reduce video frame display rates when available bandwidth decreases, enabling motion-video with synchronised audio to be played under heavy loading conditions.
