Inso Corp has acquired French XML and SGML publishing software house AIS Software SA for $3m in cash. The acquisition will be accounted for as a purchase. Paris-based AIS, previously owned by leading French publisher Berger-Levrault SA, is the developer of Balise, a transformation tool and scripting language, as well as Dual Prism, a web-based XML and SGML publishing system. AIS has over 100 customers, and Inso says it will add significant technical expertise and a strong installed base to its existing electronic publishing business, based around the DynaBase and DynaText products. Inso will use the technology to boost its web information delivery, data transformation and data rescue products. AIS had previously closely collaborated with integrated CD-ROM-web publishing system firm Electronic Book Technologies Inc, now Inso Providence Corp, which was acquired by Inso back in 1996 for $10.6m.
