Pace the MultiFinder multi-tasking version of the Apple Macintosh operating system – $50 from September in the US – the sexiest of this week’s announcements (CI No 743) is undoubtedly the ingenious HyperCard programming environment that is designed to enable novices to create things like audio-visual presentations: in the US, the product will cost $50 to existing users and be bundled with all Macs shipped after Saturday; the new ImageWriter LQ is $1,400, the EtherTalk board for the Mac II is $700, and there is also an AppleFax modem, not announced in the UK, which enables the Mac to send and receive facsimile documents; it is also $700.
