InfoCorp attributes mixed messages coming out of Novell Inc to friction between NetWare and UnixWare camps over future direction: UnixWare, Novell’s Unix System V.4 implementation, is being pressed into service both as an application server adjunct to NetWare and a de facto Unix server standard, and as such, the system gets the thumbs down from users Computerworld polled recently – they told the paper that UnixWare does not fulfill either role yet, and does not include enough built-in NetWare integration to make it any more attractive than other Unix implementations; Novell is preparing new NetWare features for UnixWare, but risks alienating Unix users and vendors if it ties UnixWare too tightly to NetWare.
