A buyer has been found for the assets of Expertech Ltd, the Slough firm that went into receivership at the end of September (CI No 1,523), in the shape of Inference Corp, El Segundo, California developer of the Inference Automated Reasoning Tool. Inference reckons that Expertech will enable it to enhance its European distribution channel, expand its European customer base and consulting services, and increase its product offerings: it is taking on 25 Expertech employees, and Inference will add Expertech’s Xi Plus MS-DOS expert systems shell and Expertech Egeria object-oriented programmer’s tool for workstations and mainframes. Expertech, which also provides expert systems consultancy, has a customer base of over 3,000 companies throughout Europe with 10,000 systems deployed. Inference will combine its existing UK consulting business with Expertech to create Inference Europe Ltd. Terms of the acquisition were not given.
