Inertia, which originally opened its REthink wine system in New York State, has launched in California, Washington and the District of Columbia.

Inertia said that its REthink wine system allows restaurants and retailers to place orders for wine directly on winery websites and have it delivered into the state. The system involves the winery, restaurant and a wholesaler to facilitate the administration, all of which is accomplished electronically and instantly.

Inertia claims the wineries benefit by gaining access to restaurants and retailers in states where they don’t already have distribution. The company added that the system is expected to help make available small, artisan wines that do not currently have traditional distribution in these markets.

Paul Mabray, CEO, said: At its core, the REthink wine system allows the creation of a more intimate connection between the producer, the retailer and restaurateur. It’s a new way of thinking about wine sales that takes account of 21st century technology.
