The desktop and mobile PCs together sold nearly 3.15 million units in India in the third quarter of 2011, registering a 13% increase over the third quarter of 2010, according to IT research firm Gartner.
The main driver behind this demand was the mobile PC market which grew 29% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2011, according to the IT research firm.
Gartner principal research analyst Vishal Tripathi said the consumer segment accounted for 55% of PC shipments.
All the major multinational PC vendors in India registered a growth of over 10% in PC shipments in the third quarter of 2011, the report said.
Dell, HP, Lenovo and Acer were the top four vendors accounting for 51.1% of the total sales.
Local vendor HCL was the only vendor in the top five to register a year-on-year decline in shipments in the third quarter of 2011, accounting 5.6% of PC shipments in the same quarter.
