Ilog SA has collaborated with Tadpole Technology Plc on a visualization system that can download map information onto a handheld tablet display via a GSM phone. The Tadpole system, called Cartesia Redline, is currently being piloted by UK utility Bristol Water Plc. It uses Ilog’s Jviews GUI builder visualization software. File workers can access and update information in real-time, using a pen marker on the tablet screen. The ruggedized pen-based mobile device, which Tadpole has code-named Kenya, has a screen readable in bright sunlight, and connects up to the Java-based Cartesia geographic information systems software from Bristol-based Systems Synthesis Ltd, a company Tadpole acquired last year for 200,000 pounds (CI No 3,367). It won the contract to supply Bristol Water with a mobile Java and Corba-based software system as part of the deal. Denver, Colorado-based GeoData Solutions Inc is the US distributor of the Cartesia software.
