The Los Angeles-based body, which is responsible for the mammoth task of coordinating internet name and address policy across global borders, said it has formed a search committee and has recruited Christopher Mills & Partners to help find its third CEO.
Among other qualities, the candidate will have credibility with the internet community and awareness of the history of the internet as well as familiarity with internet technical standards and extensive international experience and evident cross-cultural sensitivity.
ICANN is looking for someone who can balance the views of the organization’s myriad corporate and special interest constituent groups with a by-turns apathetic/resentful internet-using public and dozens of national governments.
ICANN wants to put a candidate before its board for selection late this year or early next year. Nominations should be sent to ceo-search@icann.org.
