IBM taps FaceTime for IM bridging

IBM Corp [IBM] will use technology from FaceTime Communications Inc to make its WebSphere Portal software allow instant messaging networks that use different protocols to be connected.

FaceTime’s IM Presence Manager, built into Portal, will allow public and enterprise IM networks, such as IBM’s own Lotus Sametime, to interoperate.

It will also allow presence-oriented services to be built into enterprise workflow portals.
