IBM’s Global Services (GS) division has signed a 100m pound ($161m), seven-year contract to manage the cash machine network of the UK’s Co-operative Bank. Under the terms of the outsourcing contract IBMGS will handle the switching for verification and authorization of transactions as well as the maintenance of the bank’s 600 cash machines, including filling them with money. The contract is a renewal of a services and maintenance deal the companies signed five years ago.
Services are an increasingly important revenue source for for IBM. At $28bn last year, outsourcing was IBM’s second largest revenue generator and half of the IT giant’s UK employees now work for the Global Services division, Solutions Manager, Jerry Hall, told ComputerWire.
