IBM this week issued a statement of direction saying that it intends to provide a PS/2 local area network-based addition to the ImagePlus family: PS/2 ImagePlus is promised as a complete end user-configurable implementation of ImagePlus using OS/2 Extended Edition, and IBM is looking to provide it with a functional base similar to those of SAA ImagePlus MVS/ESA and SAA ImagePlus/400. It will include image storage and retrieval with document, folder, and case management and will be aimed at small departments and work groups of organisations that can benefit from ImagePlus without having to rely on a host processor connection for image support. It is being designed using Systems Application Architecture and Common User Access standards as implemented in the OS/2 Presentation Manager and Eastman Kodak Co is assisting the effort.
