With SOX and similar regulations prompting enterprises to carefully review their data retention policies, IBM views the Princeton deal as one of the cornerstones of its governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) offerings.
Of course, the issues that Princeton Softech addresses vastly predate the latest generation of corporate governance mandates. The company’s tools, traditionally utilized for information lifecycle management (ILM) purposes, also infuse meaning into data that’s being offloaded and provide policy engines for determining where and how to store it. And because it can superimpose a business subject view, it makes the archives far more accessible.
So IBM’s promotion of governance, risk, and compliance may be just the tip of the iceberg for the Princeton offerings. In the long run, the tools could also bolster IBM’s master data management, information server, and Tivoli access control offerings.
