Systems Application Architecture AD/Cycle Language Environment/370 common run-time SAA AD/Cycle Language Environment/370 provides a common run-time environment and language-specific run-time services for compiled language products. It is designed to provide defined calling conventions, enhanced interlanguage communication, callable services, language specific services, common maths functions, application utilities, system services and subsystem support for CICS and IMS. The compilers requiring Language Environment/370 for execution are AD/Cycle Cobol/370 and AD/Cycle C/370. SAA AD/Cycle Cobol/370 MVS/ESA and VM/ESA will be supported December 20, 1991 and AD/Cycle AD/Cycle C/370 MVS/ESA ships June 26, 1992. For processor groups 18 to 80, costs range from $5,760 to $70,320, while distributed licences are between $4,320 and $52,740. Monthly licences range between $120 and $1,465 while the distributed licence options start at $90 and rise to $1,100. An Entry Support Licence costs $2,870, and a Licence to Use is $861.

SAA AD/Cycle Cobol/370

AD/Cycle Cobol/370 Version 1 is the SAA-conforming Cobol language compiler supporting AD/Cycle Language Environment/370. It provides the run-time environment and library of run-time services for SAA AD/Cycle Cobol/370 application development and execution. Version 1 Release 1 is a follow-on product to VS Cobol II Version 1 Releases 3.0, 3.1, and 3.2. Cobol/370 is designed to provide functions which reduce the need for both extensive algorithms and explicit loops. IBM says that it provides consistent interlanguage communications, common services, and common functions, which should help extend the useful life of existing applications. Available December 20, it is from $4,940 to $102,050, and distributed options are between $3,700 and $76,540. Monthly licences are from $102 to $2,125, and distributed licences are between $76 and $1,590. The Entry Support licence is $2,255 and licence to use is $451.

AD/Cycle C/370 Version 1

AD/Cycle C/370 Version 1 is the SAA-conforming C language compiler supporting AD/Cycle Language Environment/370. It provides the run-time environment and library of run-time services for AD/Cycle C/370 application development and execution. Cohesive edit, compile, and debug facilities are provided by AD/Cycle Co-operative Development Environment/370, when it becomes available, and these debug facilities are similar to those provided by the Inspect for C/370 and PL/I. AD/Cycle C/370 Version 1 application programmers can exploit the Language Environment/370 common execution environment, run-time features, and functions such as callable services, exception handling, math library routines, and storage management. The global optimiser generates highly-optimised code with execution-time improvement over applications compiled and executed with the C/370 Compiler and Library Version 1 products. Availability is December 20, 1991 for MVS/ESA only, June 26, 1992 for the VM/ESA environment. Costs range from $8,365 to $102,050 for groups 18 to 80, and the distributed systems option is between $6,275 and $76,540. Monthly options are from $174 to $2,125, and distributed licences are from $130 to $1,590. An Entry Support licence is $2,255, and $451 for a Licence to Use.

SAA Cross System Product Set for MVS

The SAA Cross System Product provides definition, test, generation, and execution of applications. For System 370, it includes SAA Cross System Product/370 Application Development Version 4 and SAA Cross System Product/370 Runtime Services Version 2. And for for OS/2, there is the SAA Cross System Product/2 Application Development Version 1 and SAA Cross System Product/2 Runtime Services Version 1. Cobol generation and associated runtime services for MVS, CICS/MVS, CICS/ESA, TSO and MVS Batch are announced. Cross System Product has been enhanced to support the development of co-operative applications for execution in CICS environments available on MVS and OS/2 Extended Edition, and IBM says that extensive language enhancements have been added. Available August 28, 1992 it is fr

om $18,860 to $389,050, and distributed options are from 14,150 to $291,800. Monthly charges are from $393 to $8,105, distributed options go from $295 to $6,080.

APL2 Version 2 Release 1

APL2 Version 2, a high-level programming language, supports co-operative processing among TCP/IP-connected MVS and VM systems. It can access non-APL network applications and distribute data via access to new releases of SQL/DS and DB2. It supports additional interlanguage communication facilities, including calls to and from APL2 functions from C/370, OS PL/I and REXX TSO/E. Performance improvements include workspace management for reduction of paging, and compatibility with APL2 products on MS-DOS and AIX/6000 systems includes common full-screen and APL file access. Files as variables enables users to manipulate files directly, using APL2 primitives, without explicit file input output. There is co-operative processing support for APL sessions distributed across a network, and the networking support is based on TCP/IP. The Co-operative Interpreter Interface enables a user or an APL2 application to control an APL session on another machine. Other enhancements include co-operative application support, distributed database access and an SAA Query Common Program Interface. For groups 10 to 80, costs range from $2,930 to $102,500, and the distributed options go from $2,200 to $76,880. Monthly licences are between $61 and $1,905. An Entry Support licence costs $1,905, and a licence to use costs $572.

Co-operative Development Environment/370

AD/Cycle CODE/370 is said to be an integral component of AD/Cycle’s framework for high-level languages, application development and maintenance across all SAA machines. The new framework, based on co-operative processing and the integration of tools on a PS/2, consists of AD/Cycle CODE/370, a co-operative edit, compile, and debug environment; AD/Cycle Language Environment/370, a common run-time product; and AD/Cycle C/370 and AD/Cycle Cobol/370 compilers. AD/Cycle CODE/370 is a Systems Application Achitecture co-operative processing implementation. It provides a language-sensitive editor and an interactive debugger, and the editor operates on the PS/2 and interacts co-operatively with the host to provide application development functions. The interactive debugger allows for PS/2-based co-operative debugging of host applications and host-based full screen, line mode, and batch debugging. AD/Cycle CODE/370 runs under MVS/ESA and VM/ESA, and both AD/Cycle Cobol/370 and AD/Cycle C/370 are supported. AD/Cycle Language Environment/370 provides the run-time environment and library of run-time services for AD/Cycle C/370 and AD/Cycle Cobol/370 application development and execution. It will be available June 26, 1992. For groups 18 to 80, costs range between $11,520 and $140,650, while the distributed systems licence option ranges between $8,640 and $105,500. Monthly licences are between $240 and $2,930, and the distributed options start at $180 and rise to $2,195.
