Huawei Technologies, a provider of next-generation telecommunication services, has deployed first UMTS commercial network for China Unicom in Zhengzhou, Henan province, China.
According to Huawei, the deployment is expected to enable China Unicom to offer high-speed mobile data services, such as high-speed mobile internet and other advanced multimedia services for its end-users.
In China Unicom’s phase one UMTS tender, Huawei was awarded market share of over 30% based on number of transceiver to be deployed. In February 2009, Huawei connected China Unicom’s first UMTS video call across 20 cites and expects to complete deployment of China Unicom’s entire UMTS network, which includes cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, in April 2009.
