Hewlett-Packard Co has announced a line of remote access modules designed to provide dial-up communications to its range of AdvanceStack 10Base-T hubs. Developed jointly with Shiva Corp, the new Dial-A-LAN modules are said to be fully compatible with Shiva’s LanRover 3.5 technology. They are designed for installation in the AdvanceStack’s expansion slot, and are available in two- and four-port versions. The two-port model, the Dial-A-LAN 2A/Plus, provides communications at speeds up to 28.8Kbps while the four-port version is designed for communications to four external modems or ISDN terminal adaptors. Additionally, Hewlett-Packard says it will provide a bundled package comprising the modules and its AdvanceStack Simple Network Management Protocol-based management module. The products are due to ship next month. The two-port version will cost $3,000 with the four-port model priced at $2,400. The addition of the SNMP management module will add $100 to the price of either module.
