Hewlett-Packard Co, which is promising further additions to OpenView over the next few weeks, says the Windows NT version of its network management environment is still a 1995 product that will ship on both iAPX-86 and Precision Architecture RISC systems. However, it says the thing is not its top priority right now though, seeing the unification of distributed network and systems management environments a la IBM Corp and SunSoft Inc as paramount. According to our sister publication ClieNT Server News, the Windows NT implementation developed by Hewlett-Packard’s Unix people was chosen to go forward to product over a version out of the OpenView for Windows team that got canned. The code, which is apparently locked away to prevent further dispute, is apparently now desperately required by the Windows group so it can square up to Digital Equipment Corp and IBM Corp’s PolyCenter/NetView for NT offerings.
