HP has unveiled three new SOA competence centers in California, Singapore, and Bangalore that will enable it to demonstrate and run pilot SOA technology and implementations for enterprise clients. The company already has similar facilities in Japan and France, and said they form part of a $500m investment in developing its SOA business.

HP’s announcement comes just two months after IT services vendor Accenture Ltd said it would pump some $450m into SOA offerings over the next three years, including the development of four SOA centers at sites in the US, France, and India. Accenture also announced a tie-up with Sun Microsystems Inc recently that will see the two firms pool together SOA development and strategy teams.

IBM told Computer Business Review earlier this year that it will invest $1bn in SOA research and development this year, and that it has developed a channel of 2,500 partners who can help with clients’ SOA projects. It is also training around 90,000 of its consultants in the Global Services division on SOA technology.
