That Hitachi Ltd and Compaq’s Tandem Computer need to issue a press release to say that their respective OMG Corba-compatible object transaction servers (OTS) can interoperate, seems to us to say more about the scarcity of compatible Corba implementations than the achievement itself. Nevertheless, the two say that Hitachi’s TPBroker, the OLTY/ORB combination created from Hitachi’s OpenTP1 TP monitor – with help from Visigenic Software Inc and Tandem’s NonStop OTS, Jorb/MP and DOM/MP – successfully demonstrated two-phase commit transactions between individual services, resource managers and the native OTS. Hitachi will add Java support and event notification services to TPBroker next month.
