Hewlett-Packard Co has a compact disk reader-recorder system that enables 650Mb or 74 minutes of audio to be recorded onto an HP SureStore CD-R disk from the hard drive of a Macintosh or multimedia machine. The HP SureStore CD-Writer 4020i comprises a compact drive, four CD readers and two CD recorders installed in a half-height 5.25 bay. Also included are two blank HP SureStore CD-R disks, a SCSI-2 Bus Mastering interface board, a Windows file manager for transferring files to CD and a search engine that enables users to create and search databases of CD recordings. The CD-Writer will cost $1,250, CD-R disks will cost $12 each. Both are out this month in the US.
