Along with Psion Plc, Hewlett-Packard Co seems to be one of the few that has got the palmtop personal computer about right, but it is not resting on its laurels, and has duly added the HP 200LX, based on an 80186-compatible processor – presumably a NEC Corp V50 – which adds a version of Pocket Quicken, Intuit Inc’s mobile financial-tracking application in ROM; the new machine comes in two models – HP 200LX-2MB at $700, $50 less than the previous version, and the HP 200LX-1MB, $550, the same price as the previous version; the company has broadened distribution to include a wide range of retail outlets, including office product stores, mass merchants and college bookstores and the new line is out now worldwide; it includes Lotus Development Corp’s cc:Mail and 1-2-3, and runs MS-DOS 5; new $120 communications kit connects the HP 200LX to desktop and laptop machines, with links to the Windows and MS-DOS versions of desktop Quicken; 5Mb, 10Mb and 20Mb Flash PCMCIA cards are also available – at a pricey $375, $600 and $1,000 and the thing has a 640 by 200 display.
