Hewlett-Packard Co yesterday reached agreement with Sun Microsystems Inc unit SunSelect on the terms under which it will license the Wabi technology that enables users of Unix systems to run Microsoft Corp’s Windows 3.1 applications quickly and without modification just by opening a window on the Unix desktop. SunSelect claims that Wabi is the first software-only product that enables Windows applications to be supported under Unix without performance degradation. Wabi delivers maximum performance for the most popular Windows applications, while UK company Insignia Solutions Ltd’s SoftPC provides the highest level of compatibility for a broad range of MS-DOS and Windows applications, Hewlett says.
