The SQLWindows fourth generation language applications development environment for Microsoft Windows and IBM’s Presentation Manager, developed by Gupta Technologies Inc of Menlo Park, California is now available in the UK courtesy of newcomer Henley Business Software. SQLWindows is a component of Gupta’s SQL System series of products for data managment on MS DOS micros used with IBM mainframes. SQLWindows is designed to speed up the flow of data requested by a user from a central computer by employing a system of co-operative processing of applications in a network of personal computers, servers and mainframes. The database component runs on the server or servers, and applications can simultaneously access data held on the user’s own micro, on the server databases and in mini and mainframe databases. Programmers are able to create data entry forms, specify data editing and validation checking as well as defining reports. Gupta Technologies, which was founded in 1984 by Umang Gupta, specialises in Structured Query Language and introduced the SQLBase SQL engine in 1986: SQLBase can be used both as a single-user database or as a shared database on a local network server. The company, whose turnover reached $5m in 1987 has over 800 SQLBase sites in the US. Henley Business Software Ltd, specialising in distributed software solutions for medium to large organisations is based in Henley-on-Thames. The SQLWindow Design development package is UKP595, and the five-pack SQLWindows Run run-time version is UKP750.
