The service will utilize 3G technology and exclusive Helio multimedia devices to provide users with access to picture and video messaging, games and live news feeds.
Helio is a joint venture between the wireless carrier SKTelecom and EarthLink, an Internet service provider. Helio’s key aim is to transfer the internet’s dynamic and community orientated status to mobile technology, while catering for a young demographic.
As Helio chief executive Sky Daton describes, With Helio, mobile is about staying connected in innovative ways where sharing your world includes content like videos and games, or unique personalization. These are things that have been happening on the Internet for years, but haven’t been taken mobile – until now.
The social networking website Myspace is at the forefront of Helio’s marketing campaign, which claims to provide an optimized version for mobile handsets. Users will receive unlimited access to Myspace, being able to post content directly from their Helio device and access extra photo storage.
