Following the agreement finally reached between IBM and Siemens AG last August that enabled IBM to extricate itself gracefully from the ruins of its Rolm Corp acquisition, Siemens Hicom300 digital PABX is to be marketed in Europe by IBM – under the name Com300. The agreement, which will at first apply only in West Germany, Belgium and Luxemburg, will make the Integrated Services Digital Network standards-compliant Com300 part of the IBM telecommunications product range, with the AS/400 Telephony Application Services program the first to support the connection between the AS/400 and the Com300 private branch exchange. The Com300 system will be complemented with various peripheral products and support services, and IBM is establishing a centre in Munich for the purpose. IBM will also be making similar announcements in other countries as and when the relevant licensing authorities grant approval to the Hicom300, Computerwoche reports.
