A new series of graphics co-processor boards using snap-on personality modules, the Volante Multi-Personality Series from Austin, Texas-based National Design Inc is said to enable users to tailor the graphics of their AT-alike to suit individual requirements: the AT1100, AT1300 and AT1600 share a main board based on Texas Instruments’ TMS34020 graphics processor, and Natonal Design’s applications specific integrated circuits replace many of the bulkier components found on other boards; the AT1100 uses National Design’s True Colour module which delivers resolution of 1,024 by 768 and 16.7m colour possibilities; the AT1300’s module offers 1,280 by 1,204 resolution and 32,768 colours, and the AT1600 supports a 1,600 by 1,280 display, while providing a selection of 256 colours; if a user wants Super VGA on the same board, there is a snap-on VGA using the Tseng Labs VGA chip, and the TMS34082 floating-point co-processor is available as an option for all three for math-intensive or three dimensional applications; the AT1100 is $3,000, $4,000 for the AT1300 and AT1600.
