Google claims the new feature offers a more direct route to content relating to certain artists. When a popular artist name is entered, Google will show information about that artist, reviews, and links to stores where users can download the track or buy a CD via a link at the top of the web search results page. It will also list all the songs on any given artist’s album.
Commenting on the expansion it envisions for this feature, Google said, Right now the music search feature mostly works for artists popular in the US and a more limited number of artists from other countries, but we plan to expand it to classical music, worldwide artists, and lesser-known performers. Our list of music stores will also grow over time.
The search engine also expects the feature to allow them to identify exactly the kind of music content Google users look for most frequently, Sometimes users are looking for music information related to those words, and sometimes they aren’t. As we get better at knowing when our users want music information, we hope to expand this feature to include more queries.
