Google has acquired Launchpad Toys, a San Francisco-based, kid-friendly, mobile app maker, in an attempt to expand its games and services offerings for kids.

Launchpad Toys is known for creating the Toontastic storytelling tool, which is designed to encourage kids to draw, animate, narrate, and record their own cartoons.

However, the app is only available for iPad users with iOS 5.1 or later.

Launchpad Toys said: "We’re proud to announce that our little toy company is pairing up with a great big team of tinkerers to empower GAJILLIONS of playful storytellers around the world."

"Launchpad Toys is joining Google to create even more amazing creativity tools for kids. Today, we’ve made our digital toys and tools free to creative kids everywhere. Tomorrow… well, we can’t wait to share."

Google has reportedly made the premium app available for free which includes in-app playsets, reported 9to5 Google.

The company is also reportedly trying to expand its reach beyond tools and content designed for adults.

Previously, Google engineering VP Pavni Diwanji had detailed company’s plan to introduce child-friendly versions of Chrome and YouTube which will show up results that are relevant to kids.
