Toronto-based Gold Disk Inc, developer and publisher of desktop presentation and business productivity products, has announced it will incorporate Apple Computer Inc’s QuickTime for Windows system software extensions in its multimedia and graphics presentation products. Its Animation Works Interactive version 1.1 authoring tool for Windows will be available at the end of the month. Animation Works Interactive 1.1 is a multimedia presentation authoring system for Microsoft Windows 3.0 and higher and MPC file-format users. The system is aimed at corporate end users and professionals wanting to integrate digital video, sound, animation, text, graphics into information kiosks, sales and marketing materials, computer-based training and interactive presentations. Intel Corp’s compression algorithm, included in Video for Windows, enables users to play back video in their presentation with or without an add-in board. The minimum system requirements for running Animation Works Interactive 1.1 are Microsoft Windows 3.0 or higher; an IBM 80286 or compatible or IBM PS/2; 2Mb of RAM – but the company recommends an 80386SX with 4Mb of RAM – a VGA monitor; and a mouse. Animation Works Interactive 1.1 costs $700 or is offered free to registered Animation Works Version 1.0 users. It is available through Gold Disk distributors Merisel, Ingram, Micro SoftKat and Kenfil. Other Gold Disk products for the Windows environment include a non-interactive Animation Works package, Animation Works for Windows; and AddImpact!, an Object Linking and Embedding server that enables users to add animated effects, voice narration and sound to Windows applications. No specific release dates for these have been announced.
