The Dutch ministry for transport and waterways says it expects to award terrestrial telecommunications licenses to EnerTel NV and Telfort BV in the next month. Telfort is the joint venture between British Telecom and railway operator Nederlandse Spoorwegen NV, Enertel is a consortium of Dutch regional power companies and local cable television network operators. The win is a six-pointer for British Telecom, because the losing bidder was its arch-rival, the Global One joint venture of Sprint Co rp, France Telecom and Deutsche Telekom AG, which was unsuccessful as it failed to meet one of the government’s conditions. The ministry declined to reveal details of the condition. The two will compete with Koninklijke PTT Nederland NV.
