Israeli multimedia software company Geo Interactive says it is creating a component of its Emblaze Audio, Video and VideoPro technologies that will enable developers using Computer Associates International Inc’s Jasmine object database to incorporate the Emblaze technology so that Jasmine users can treat Emblaze multimedia files as any other Jasmine object. Geo’s Emblaze uses a Java applet that is downloaded the first time round to run compressed audio and video and thus avoids the need for plug-ins or special server software, says the company. Jasmine, which is based on Fujitsu Ltd’s ODB-II object database has been slow getting off the ground since arriving last December, following a lengthy delay, but CA has always trumpeted Jasmine’s internet and multimedia capabilities as a key differentiator and a reason that it will hit its target of generating $1bn in revenues over five years (05/12/98).
