General Electric Co Inc is making a big push to improve its relatively little-known GEniw commercial on-line service, and steal some market share from the Big Three on-line services, America Online Inc, CompuServe Inc and Prodigy Services Co, reports Reuters. Its strategy focuses on an easier-to-use interface, access to the Internet and a simplified pricing structure. Analysts estimate GEnie to have just under 100,000 subscribers compared with America Online’s and Prodigy’s 2m and CompuServe’s 2.7m. Analysts point to GEnie’s slow move to Windows as the main reason for it lagging behind the Big Three but say it may be in with a chance to swell its subscriber base when the Microsoft Network and AT&T Corp’s on-line service are up and running.
